Week 7 The time of the doves

Hi, everyone. Welcome to my week 7 blog! I read this novel during the reading break and have many thoughts to share with you.  The novel "The Time of the Doves" is written by Mercè Rodoreda. I think this book gave me a depressing feeling, and I thought Quimet and Natalia's marriage was doomed to be a mistake from the beginning.  I didn't feel that Quimet had a strong love for Natalia; on the contrary, I felt that Quimet wanted Natalia to be obedient to him. Before they got married, Quimet had been extremely angry when Natalia went out for a walk with another man, demanding that she beg for his forgiveness. This makes me feel that Quimet never really loved Natalia from the beginning, but tried to control her, restrict her and possess her. This is a relationship that I cannot accept, but I can also understand why Natalia chose to marry Quimet. Part of the reason should be because of the death of her mother. In the book, Natalia mentioned that her mother never talked to

Week6: Black Shack Alley

Hi, everyone! Welcome to my sixth blog! I was tired this week since I have three midterms, but this wonderful book relaxes me. I hope you have time to read my blog. This week I read "Black Shack Alley", it is a novel written by Joseph Zobel in 1950. There is also a movie adapted from this novel. I watched part of the movie while reading the book. First of all, I like this book very much. I think this book is of great educational significance in many aspects. This book allows me to see the strength and resilience of people who dare to resist fate. This book is written from the perspective of the protagonist  JosĂ©,  from the beginning of the story, we can see the hardship of his life. The good thing Jose thinks is a piece of bread, which makes me feel pitiful for him. Although his life was difficult, from his description I did not feel that he was critical of his own life.  On the contrary, I feel he lives optimistically. Although the events he encounters as an adult are cruel,

Week5: Agostino

Hi, everyone. Welcome to my fifth blog! This week I read "Agostino" written by  Alberto Moravia. It is a complicated story. I have many thoughts to share with you. The protagonist is a little boy named Agostino. When I first started reading this book, it reminded me of Proust's Combray. I felt that the protagonists in both books have a strong attachment to their mothers. In Combray, the little boy is attached to his mother's kiss before sleep, while Agostino is infatuated with his mother's companionship. He fears that his mother might be taken away by another man, giving me the impression that he has a kind of " Oedipus complex ". In the novel, when someone comes to talk to his mother, Agostino is very disgusted. Initially, he is happy to go out to sea with his mother, but with the appearance of another man, Agostino becomes quite upset. Consequently, he decides not to go out to sea with his mother anymore, hoping that she will notice his unhappiness. Th
